I hadn't seen this before today, but here is a short 28-minute documentary about how the Arduino came to be.
For those of you who don't know what an Arduino is, you'll be excited to find out. An Arduino is a small open-source microcontroller... basically a tiny self-contained computer. They cost about $30, and are easily programmed from your desktop computer with a USB cable. Their potential uses are nearly limitless - they run 3D printers, automate garden sprinkler systems, create gumball machines that dispense candy when you tap out a secret knock, or something as simple as "making your dress blink" (as mentioned in the documentary).
